Due to inclement weather, the January 3, 2002 meeting of the State Board of Technical and Adult Education in Atlanta was cancelled; however, Chairman Harris authorized the use of technology and telecommunications to have a meeting for the purpose of taking action on several time-sensitive motions. The motions, with Committee affiliations, are as follows:
Budget, Facilities and Technology Committee
Approval of Contracts
Upon a motion by Mr. Harrington, seconded by Mr. Rhodes, the Board approved a contract with Lott + Barber, Architects, Savannah, Georgia, to prepare a Campus Master Plan for Savannah Technical College-Main Campus, Savannah, Georgia. The amount of the contract is $27,000.00.
Upon a motion by Mr. Harrington, seconded by Mr. Rhodes, the Board approved a construction contract for a New Entrance Road at Valdosta Technical College. The amount of the contract is not to exceed $200,000.00.
Upon a motion by Mr. Harrington, seconded by Mr. Rhodes, the Board approved a construction contract for a Greenhouse Building at Valdosta Technical College. The amount of the contract is not to exceed $55,000.00.

Equipment Purchases and Contracts
- Central Georgia Technical College - Upon Motion by Mr. Tallent, seconded by Mr. Lord, the Board approved to authorize the Commissioner to purchase for Central Georgia Technical College 32 computers for the Visual Communications program (main campus) at a total cost not to exceed $99,945.00.
- Coosa Valley Technical College - Upon Motion by Mr. Tallent, seconded by Mr. Lord, the Board approved to authorize the Commissioner to purchase for Coosa Valley Technical College 29 classroom computers for the Gordon County Campus at a total cost not to exceed $41,673.00.
- North Georgia Technical College - Upon Motion by Mr. Tallent, seconded by Mr. Lord, the Board approved to authorize the Commissioner to purchase for North Georgia Technical College computers and equipment for the Operating Systems program (main campus) at a total cost not to exceed $40,500.00.
- North Metro Technical College - Upon Motion by Mr. Tallent, seconded by Mr. Lord, the Board approved to authorize the Commissioner to purchase for North Metro Technical College computer equipment (replacement), career videos for the School-to-Work program and one engine dynamometer for the Automotive program at a total cost not to exceed $128,610.00.
- Valdosta Technical College - Upon Motion by Mr. Tallent, seconded by Mr. Lord, the Board approved to authorize the Commissioner to purchase for Valdosta Technical College computers for the Library, replace workstations for the Cosmetology program, a downdraft paint booth for the Auto Collision program, dental workstation computers for the Dental Hygiene/Assisting program, pumps and piping for the Industrial Systems Technology program and a printing press for the Printing and Graphic Arts program at a total cost not to exceed $280,500.00.
Additional agenda items scheduled to be discussed and voted at the January 3, 2002 State Board meeting, including the Minutes of the December 6, 2001 meeting, will be addressed by the full Board at the February 7, 2002 meeting in Atlanta. The January meeting was adjourned upon completion of above items.
