Governor's Awards for Achievement in Workplace Learning

The seventh presentation of Governor's Awards for Achievement in Workplace Learning, featuring Georgia Governor Zell Miller will be held October 7-8, 1998 at the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in Atlanta. Sponsored by the Technical College System of Georgia, Office of Adult Literacy, the Governor's Awards for Achievement in Workplace Learning have reached a total number of 391 awards presented over the past six years.

This total represents 315 Gold Awards and 76 Platinum Awards. The Platinum Award is for organizations in which a substantial number of employees have been assessed at a minimum eighth grade skill level in reading comprehension, language arts, and mathematics. This particular award may be presented to the organization as a whole or a sub-group within a given department. The Gold Award is earmarked for organizations that have developed and implemented an adult basic skills learning program that satisfies program criteria required by the Office of Adult Literacy.

Each year has seen a successive increase in award recipients, particularly in the platinum category which now represents 19% of the total awards presented. A recent survey indicates that this year's number will show a dramatic increase in both levels of achievement, according to Workplace Coordinator, Len Moore. Companies and organizations interested in applying for the Governor's Award may submit the award application available below.
