![]() From the Desk of the Assistant Commissioner Dear Friends of Adult Literacy, Welcome to the Fall-Winter edition of Perspectives, the quarterly newsletter produced by the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education, Office of Adult Literacy. This edition salutes the General Educational Development (GED) program in Georgia. The GED Tests measure the academic skills and concept normally associated with a traditional high school education. Those who successfully complete the battery may find themselves in a position to get a better job, earn more money, raise their standard of living, and receive a $500 HOPE grant to continue their education. In recent months, the Office of Adult Literacy has stepped up its efforts to ensure that more adult Georgians have access to the GED and adult education classes This includes the implementation of the new PASSPORT (Processing Accurate Students' Statistics and Providing Official Report Totals) system. This system is new database and management information system which will process GED scoring faster and more accurately than before. Earning the GED allows adult students the opportunity to get the academic knowledge and basic skills necessary to succeed in today's competitive workforce Perhaps most importantly, GED completers will gain the foundation needed to continue their academic growth. Success breeds success, and as the subjects of the stories within will attest, the more you learn, the more you want to learn. As always, we appreciate your continued interest in supporting adult literacy in Georgia.
Sincerely,
