Dear Friends of Adult Literacy,
Welcome to the winter edition of Perspectives, the quarterly newsletter produced by the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education, Office of Adult Literacy (OAL). This issue salutes the Certified Literate Community Program (CLCP).
CLCP uses one of my favorite words to get entire communities to work toward a common goal. That word is collaboration, and the goal is to create literate communities. This is a multi-faceted approach including members of local business, government, education, and civic organizations. Partnerships are helping to improve the literacy levels of families and workers in their communities throughout the state.
The CLCP’s focus is to use the resources that each community has to offer. Representatives of the CLCP make efforts to build communities and strengthen partnerships with participating groups and agencies. It has been said that it takes an entire village to raise a child. In the case of the CLCP, it takes an entire community to build a successful program. The program has grown considerably in the past decade. A full-time director continues to coordinate the program on a statewide basis, providing advice on funding, sharing materials, and facilitating networking opportunities among community representatives.
If the past ten years is any indication of Georgia’s commitment to community partnership, then CLCP has a bright future. We have received numerous accounts of the success of this initiative, as the stories within will attest. OAL thanks you for your continued support of adult literacy and the communities in Georgia. Sincerely, | ||
