School To Work is not a program, but rather a strategy and philosophy designed to bring together educators, businesses, and communities for the purpose of giving individuals the opportunity to gain the information and skills they need to be successful to move from one level and type of education to another, and from success in education to success in a career. The partnership functions to bring together the many voices that are interested in education and/or careers.

School to Work involves parents and students Each partnership examines its region to determine what gaps exist that limit the ability of learners to move successfully from one type or level of education to a career field. Based on this information, local partnerships then develop strategies to fill these gaps. The strategies will be as different as the needs and communities within the regions.

Each individual partnership determines what current programs provide a successful transition from education to career, examines the gaps that exist within those transitions, develops strategies best suited for correcting the gaps, and implements them.

The purpose of the grant is to provide seed-monies to help local public-private partnerships identify local needs and pursue projects that strengthen, expand, and connect local education improvement, economic development, and workforce development programs, within a sustainable statewide system. The State office provides information and resources to partnerships in building resources across the state for all learners.
