The 1999 TERRIFIC Award in the College/University category is awarded to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia for their Public Service and Business Outreach Center.
The Public Service and Business Outreach Center at ABAC serves an 8 county region and provides a wide range of assistance and learning opportunities to a equally diverse sector. The center focuses on serving two distinct areas: the business and industry sector through its workforce development programs, and the individual/family sector through personal lifelong learning and enrichment programs. ABAC's public service program is one of the largest and most comprehensive programs of its kind in the state. Noncredit courses, conferences, and workshops are offered in career and professional development, leisure activities, and issues of public concern. The Center also adds much to the economic vitality of South Georgia through cooperative efforts with existing business and industry Most courses are presented either on campus or at ABAC on the Square in Moultrie. One of their more recent delivery methods is through the World Wide Web, where they offer a growing range of on-line course in business management and computer related technology. The Center’s Youth Connection and Educational Outreach programs bring a different age group to the campus where children all ages can enjoy taking a variety of different classes. GEDA recognizes the tremendous contributions that ABAC’s Public Service and Business Outreach Center has made to their region.
