Atlanta – Interim DTAE Commissioner Ron Jackson has appointed Andy Lundell, the current president of Georgia Aviation Technical College in Eastman, as a special assistant to the commissioner.
The appointment is effective today.
Lundell’s initial responsibility will be to provide his expert guidance to the enhancement of the aviation maintenance programs at several technical colleges throughout the state. One of his first assignments will involve assisting with the development of the aviation airframe and powerplant program at Savannah Technical College.
“We’re very grateful to Andy for both the professional and personal effort he put into building Georgia Aviation Technical College from a small satellite campus to a technical college that’s been a model for aviation education,” said Jackson. “The next step in his career will be to help our other technical colleges advance their specialized aeronautics programs, like the airframe and powerplant technologies.”
Larry Calhoun, who is presently the vice president of instruction at GAVTC, will become the acting president of the college.
In February, the state board that oversees the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education approved a plan that would merge GAVTC into Middle Georgia College in Cochran. The state Board of Regents is scheduled vote on accepting the merger during their March meeting. If they approve, the merger will be effective July 1.
