Commissioner Vollmer Names Search Committee for Next
President of Southwest Georgia Technical College

Thomasville, Ga. – Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education Commissioner Mike Vollmer has named a search committee that will select three candidates for consideration to be the next president of Southwest Georgia Technical College.

“The quality of education at Southwest Georgia Technical College is outstanding, and the faculty and staff do a great job of preparing students for careers in Georgia’s workforce,” said Commissioner Vollmer. “Our goal is to find the next president who has the right combination of knowledge, skills and abilities to continue Southwest Georgia’s record of excellence. The work of this search committee is so very important to that process.”

The new president will replace Dr. Freida Hill, who was named an assistant commissioner in DTAE’s Atlanta headquarters and is now responsible for directing technical education for the entire state of Georgia.

Lorette Hoover, the SWGTC vice president for Instructional Services, will serve as the interim president until a successor to Dr. Hill is named.

The entire interview and selection process, including the immediate announcement of the 30-day window for job applications, is expected to take four to six months. The search committee’s top three candidates will have another round of interviews in Atlanta with senior DTAE staff followed by a final interview with Commissioner Vollmer. His choice for the SWGTC president must be approved by the state Board of Technical and Adult Education, whose members are appointed by the Governor to oversee the operation of the agency.

Persons on the search committee were selected to represent the area served by SWGTC. It will be chaired by Chris Addelton, City of Cairo – City Hall Manager, Cairo. Other members are Missie Harris, Principal, Pelham Elementary School, Pelham; Tommy Hill, Vice President, Thomasville National Bank, Thomasville; Bob Hutchinson, State Farm Insurance, Boston, Georgia; Dr. Annie Laurie McElroy, SWGTC Acting Vice President of Instruction, Thomasville; Ken Rhudy, Administrator, Grady General Hospital, Cairo; Charles Rooks, President/CEO, Family Bank, Pelham; and Julia Singletary, Member, SWGTC Board of Directors,Thomasville.

Last fiscal year, Southwest Georgia Technical College enrolled 2,769 full- and part-time students in technical certificate, diploma, and associate degree programs. The college serves a three-county area in south Georgia, with the main campus in Thomasville and additional locations in Cairo and Camilla.
