A PARADE OF POLITICAL AND literacy stars turned out to celebrate advances in literacy and honor the latest round of Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) award winners at Georgia's Ninth Annual Literacy Conference this past February in Atlanta. Following Governor Zell Miller's opening remarks, the 1998 EAGLE Ambassadors were presented with medals to commemorate their personal achievements.
Based on a combination of personal characteristics, interview responses and academic accomplishments, seven outstanding adult learners representing different literacy levels were named "Literacy Ambassador" for the year. The Ambassadors will promote literacy efforts by making appearances at graduation ceremonies, civic clubs and adult learning centers.
