Dr. Kenneth Breeden

This issue of Results begins by focusing on one of the ways our technical colleges and institutes are supporting the shift towards the service sector and its growing momentum — the training we offer for executive and specialty chefs, caterers, food-service managers, and other jobs through our culinary arts programs. Another article updates our work with the certification program we established for the service sector — Certified Customer Service Specialist (CCSS) — and our Service Industry Academies. Robotics training for Hayes Wheels, one of the many companies we serve that are on the leading edge of technology; success stories featuring two of our graduates and one faculty member; two of our program advisory committees; some of our highly successful satellite campuses; an editorial by one of our presidents; a look at Quick Start’s record-breaking FY 2000; and the current state of our GED program also are featured. That we are providing the training Georgia needs is seen in the fact that our Fall Quarter 2000 enrollment is a 16 percent increase over last fall’s enrollment. We had a record enrollment every quarter in the last decade, with that trend continuing into this decade.

While it always is difficult to choose what to highlight in Results to give you a sense of recent events and important trends, including two of the speeches and a graphic representing what happened for our agency on July 6, 2000, was always on the list. In the first big wave of name-change ceremonies, we celebrated this symbol of the movement of Georgia’s technical education system into a future where our image is beginning to reflect more clearly how we have met, and will continue to meet, the mandate of our mission: to provide quality technical education that prepares people for work and careers.
