In fact the response to the burgeoning Hispanic population paints a vivid picture of how important each part of this agency is to our central mission, to provide Georgia with an educated and skilled workforce. The rest of this issue demonstrates some of the many other ways, large and small, that our technical colleges prepare citizens for fulfilling, productive lives -- from online courses that make education available to people otherwise unable to take classes to Georgia Quick Start, which garnered Georgia the nation's number one ranking for workforce training in Expansion Management magazine. My good friend Michael Thurmond did us the honor of writing a guest column for this issue, in which he describes how the Department of Labor and DTAE work together to enhance Georgia's workforce. His piece, as well as our story on Manufacturing Appreciation Week, show that we don't do it alone. DTAE works with other state agencies and many individuals in business and industry to improve Georgia's workforce and economy. Our publication lives up to its name: We present results. Our technical colleges, and the adult literacy and economic development programs they offer, play a powerful role in the educational and economic life of this state. And not only does DTAE fulfill its mission to provide Georgia with an educated and skilled workforce, we exceed it.
