Britain's Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, officially opened Slumberland USA on March 13th in Newnan, Ga. Marketing directly to the high-end consumer, Slumberland hopes to expand its business in the U.S. The company, headquartered in England, is one of the top-selling mattress brands in Europe. Quick Start developed training materials and job aids, and delivered manufacturing process training at the Newnan site, which employs 30 people. The company expects the workforce to expand to about 150 people.


Carraro North Grand Opening

Carraro North America, Inc., celebrated its grand opening on March 21st in Calhoun, Ga. The Italian company will be building axles for John Deere tractors, employing approximately 30 people. Atex, Inc.   ATEX, Inc., opened its doors in Hall County near Gainesville on April 25th. The Italian company makes fabrics used in diapers, air-line pillowcases, and surgical gowns. Some of its major customers are Hanes, DuPont, and 3M. Quick Start continues to deliver training at the new plant, which will employ about 50 people once it is in full gear. On hand for the Grand Opening were (l-r) Don Hamrick, mayor of Gainesville; Max Castellani, president of ATEX; Mario Benedetto, a cofounder of the company; Luca Benedetto, V.P. of the Gainesville plant; Al Gainey, chairman of the Hall County Commissioners; and Dr. Ken Breeden, commissioner, DTAE.



Wal-Mart Grand Opening Wal-Mart's Grand Opening in Southwest Georgia

Wal-Mart's Grand Opening in Southwest Georgia DTAE Commissioner Ken Breeden joined the festivities at Wal-Mart's grand opening in LaGrange. The new distribution center, which is 1.13 million square feet, will supply stores in Georgia and Alabama. Quick Start was essential to the corporation's training program.

The $50 million facility in LaGrange employs 600 people. Officials from the company stated at the opening that LaGrange was chosen over other sites in other states because of the quality of life, professionalism in city and county governments, and effectiveness of the LaGrange Development Authority.

Wal-Mart has 90 stores in Georgia, with more than 25,000 employees statewide. Other distribution centers are located in Statesboro and Douglas. QS
