Admissions
The initial contact of a perspective student is usually through a telephone request for information or a visit to the admissions office. At this time information about the technical college and its offerings will be provided to the prospective student. If interested, the inquirer will be requested to complete an application and submit it with the application fee of $15. Additionally, each prospective student must submit the following:

  • Official transcript from all institutions of higher education attended.

  • High school transcript or an official GED transcript of scores. While there are some programs that do not require a high school diploma or GED for admission, a student must acquire a GED or high school diploma prior to graduating from their chosen program. The only exception to this requirement exists with certain certificate of credit programs that do not require a high school diploma for admission or completion.

  • Assessment
Before beginning a program at a technical college, students must complete a placement test to determine their level of math and reading skills. The assessment tool currently used is ASSET. The completion of this assessment enables staff to identify program areas where a student may achieve the highest degree of success. Any score received on the placement test does not exclude anyone from attending a technical college, but may necessitate the need for remedial or developmental course work. Many times these courses can be taken at the same time that the occupational classes are begun.

Under certain conditions a student's prior official scores on the ACT, SAT, or CPE may be accepted in lieu of taking the ASSET. Additionally, official transcripts from a regionally accredited institution documenting equivalent program level English and Math coursework successfully completed at other postsecondary institutions may be used to document a student's basic education skills and eliminate the need to complete the placement test.
