GOAL Winner
2004 GOAL winner, Candice Walker Gerard, now a registered radiologic technologist who graduated from Okefenokee Technical College received her Radiologic Technology diploma in 2005. Prior to attending Okefenokee Tech, Candice was an honor graduate at Ware County High School, where she received her high school diploma in 2003. Candice served as secretary for the Student Government Association at Okefenokee Technical College for two years. Additionally, she has volunteered her time over the years with organizations such as the Juvenile Diabetes, March of Dimes, and the American Cancer Society. Winning the state GOAL title was not the first honor or award for Candice, whose achievements included the Okefenokee Tech President’s List, the National Technical Honor Society, the Lions Club Honor Society, National Honor Society, National Marine Corps Scholastic Achievement Award, Who’s Who Among American High School Students, Georgia Merit Scholar, and the received the Student of the Month award. Candice stated that she chose technical education because “I knew what I wanted and was ready to go after it. Technical education offers a career – not just a degree.” At the GOAL awards banquet Candice remarked, “I am extremely honored to be chosen as the 2004 state GOAL winner. I look forward to representing Okefenokee Tech as an ambassador for technical education throughout the year. Technical education has so much to offer, and now I have the prospect of sharing its benefits in a unique way.” Candice’s career objective was to become a registered radiologic technologist, obtain my associate of applied science degree, and specialize in diagnostic medical sonography.
Her hobbies include painting and tennis.
