At the 2005 GOAL banquet, five state GOAL finalists were selected. These five finalists were introduced, and each of the finalists and their nominating instructor received a cash award. Both the state GOAL finalists and their nominating instructors were asked to come to the front of the stage as their names were called. The five finalists and their nominating instructors were: 1) Richard Pearson, a student at Georgia Aviation Technical College; his instructor is Adon Clark. 2) Steve Wheeler, a student at North Georgia Technical College; his instructor is Mary Wunch. 3) Stephanie Wilson, a student at Middle Georgia Technical College; her instructor is Patricia Melnick. 4) Kimberly Wilson, a student at Augusta Technical College; her instructor is LeAnne Lovering. 5) Tammy Samples, a student at Lanier Technical College; her instructor is Shirley Lipscomb. Then the first-runner up was announced: Steve Wheeler, a student at North Georgia Technical College (pictured holding the crystal award).
