New Connections to Work

New Connections to Work is a comprehensive training and employment program, which provides student support services and preparation for increased access to technical colleges and employment. This delivery system eliminates barriers to opportunity and promotes economic self-sufficiency for single parents, displaced homemakers, single pregnant women, and TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) recipients. The goal of the New Connections to Work Program is to provide training and to move persons from welfare recipients status to successful employment.

The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education realizes that it makes good business sense to help families move from welfare to work. Through its collaborative efforts with supporting agencies, New Connections to Work has made a substantial contribution to the state of Georgia's economy and to its tax base since 1985.

The program operates in 34 technical colleges and 3 colleges with technical divisions in collaboration with the Department of Human Resources, Department of Labor, other state agencies, and business and industry.

The delivery system of services for single parents, displaced homemakers, single pregnant women, and TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) recipients provides a statewide comprehensive training program of services which include assessment, classroom activities, and short term skills training leading to employment. .

The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Services contribute to the economic and workforce development of Georgia by providing services and training, transitioning services, and jobs for unemployed or underemployed TANF recipients through the Department of Technical and Adult Education.

Procedures for collecting and reporting data through a secured website, the New Connections to Work Data Center, on the Internet were implemented in September 1997. Because of the confidentiality of the data, the website address is not available for public access.
