ACR 124 - Welding Techniques

Course Description

Provides instruction in specific welding applications in automotive collision repair. Topics include: MIG welder panel welding, plug weld collision repair, butt weld collision repair, lap weld collision repair, safety procedures, resistance welding, aluminum MIG welding, and aluminum TIG welding.

MIG WELDER PANEL WELDING

Set up and preparation

Demonstrate ability to prepare a panel for welding with the MIG welder by removing rust, paint, caulking and thoroughly cleaning metal and fitting and clamping metal for welding.

 

 

 

Adjustments

Set all adjustments and obtain correct wire size for metal to be welded.

 

 

 

PLUG WELD COLLISION REPAIR

Requirements

Explain gun movement, time, and burn back settings.

Identify size of plug weld for different gauges of metal.

 

 

 

Repair procedure

Demonstrate methods of cutting holes in metal for plug welding.

 

 

 

 

Demonstrate plug weld on test panel.

 

 

 

BUTT WELD COLLISION REPAIR

Requirements

Demonstrate proper fitting of two edges to be welded.

 

 

 

 

Demonstrate proper types of weld to eliminate warpage of metal.

 

 

 

Repair procedure

Demonstrate lead width and height for proper weld.

 

 

 

 

Demonstrate proper procedures on a test panel.  

 

 

 

LAP WELD COLLISION REPAIR
