ACR 126 - Conventional Body Structural Panel Repair

Course Description

Introduces conventional body structural panel repair. A variety of removal and replacement techniques is emphasized. Topics include: partial or complete quarter panel removal and replacement, rocker panel removal and replacement, and center pillar post removal and replacement.

Damage analysis

Analyze damage and determine whether replacement will be partial or complete.

 

 

 

Removal and replacement

Explain proper method for removal and replacement of panel to include removal of spot welds, seams,   flanges, etc.

 

 

 

 

Remove damaged panel.

 

 

 

 

Fit panel using clamps, screws or rivets.

 

 

 

 

Align and replace replacement panel using correct welding procedures and finishing.

 

 

 

Corrosion protection

Restore corrosion protection.

Removal and replacement        

Explain the process for removing damaged rocker panel.

 

 

 

 

Determine whether panel is two-piece or three-piece design.    

 

 

 

Damage analysis

Examine rocker panel for intermittent or continuous reinforcements and decide whether complete panel or section will be replaced.       

 

 

 

 

Remove, align and replace rocker panels.

 

 

 

Corrosion protection

Restore corrosion protection and finish.

Removal and replacement        

Explain process for removing damaged center pillar.

 

 

 

 

Remove center pillars by drilling out spot welds and cutting seams if necessary.

 

 

 

 

Align and fit replacement panel using screws, clamps, pop rivets, etc.

 

 

 

 

Replace center pillar using proper welding methods and finish.

 

 

 

Corrosion protection

Restore corrosion protection and finish.
