ACR 128 - Bolt-On Body Panel Removal and Replacement

Course Description

Provides instruction in the removal and replacement of bolt-on automobile body panels. Topics include: hood, deck panels, and header panels removal and replacement; fender removal and installation/coining; door removal and installation; headlamp and filler panels removal and replacement; grill removal and replacement; and headlamp adjustment.

FENDER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Inspect damage.

Check for related damage.

 

 

 

Tools

Select hand tools.

Decide on the method of replacing panel.

 

 

 

Removal and installation

Remove damaged fender.

Check for hidden damage.

 

 

 

 

Straighten and align inner fender of skirt.

 

 

 

 

Transfer moldings and accessories.

 

 

 

 

Install replacement fender.

 

 

 

 

Adjust and align fender.

 

 

 

DOOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Inspection procedures

Inspect damaged door to determine proper selection of tools.

 

 

 

Removal and installation

Remove damaged door.

 

 

 

 

Remove inside hardware and trim from damaged door.

 

 

 

 

Remove door glass, regulators, and guides.

 

 

 

 

Remove all door lock mechanisms.

 

 

 

 

Remove outside door handle and lock cylinder.

 

 

 

 

Remove all weather stripping.

 

 

 

 

Install all hardware, weather stripping, trim, and accessories on new door shell.

 

 

 

 

Soundproof new door with undercoating.

 

 

 

 

Install and align new door.

Inspect vehicle for sagged springs, car riding height, tire pressure, and clean head light lens, etc.
