AHS 154 –Allied Health Spanish // Spanish for Allied Health Workers

Course Description

An introduction to the Spanish language and Latino culture as applied to the allied health industry. Topics include: introductory conversational Spanish with an emphasis on allied health industry and on medical terminology vocabulary in the areas of Spanish verbs, nouns and grammar and understanding and appreciating aspects of Latino culture for more effective management. Additional concentration on completing physical assessments in Spanish and questioning of patients as to their health conditions, needs, and concerns.

Spanish Nouns		22
Pronunciation and Usage	Comprehend both verbally and in written form the most commonly used Spanish nouns in the allied health industry and environment
	Identify specific body parts by verbal and written recognition
	Correctly pronounce and write the most commonly used equipment in the health industry and environment
	Correctly pronounce and write the most commonly used body parts, pain descriptions, treatments, and medications in the health industry and environment
	Correctly pronounce and write safety expressions used in the health industry and environment
	Correctly pronounce and write numbers, time and colors
	Correctly pronounce and write hospital or health care facility rules and regulations in sentence form
	Correctly pronounce and write most commonly used patient care commands in sentence form

Spanish Verbs	Articulate sentences using verbs in command form
	Learn the most common workplace expressions in Spanish
	Use various common verbs and nouns as well as work related commands and requests. Focus will be on present tense and understanding when to use correct verb ending
Basic Conversational Spanish	Participate and initiate a conversation in Spanish using correct grammar as well as understand verbal communication in a natural allied health setting
	Communicate verbally using a minimum of 50 nouns and 10 verbs in different sentences
	Communicate in written format
