Course Description

Introduces automatic transmission hydraulic/mechanical, and electronic diagnosis and repair.  Topics include: electronically controlled automatic transmission, automatic transmission electrical and electronic problem diagnosis and repair.

Know the fundamentals of how the computer controls the transmission.

 

Know the input devices or sensors and be able to explain the signals sent to the computer.

 

Know the outputs and be able to explain how the computer sends commands to the computer.

 

Be able to describe the processing or method to arrive at the correct gear or shift.

Use a service manual for proper procedure and circuitry.

Know the importance of using a good wiring schematic for electrical circuitry checks.

 

Know the need for and how to use a good tester, such as a scanner or breakout box, and the use of a service manual for proper procedures.

 

Know how to retrieve trouble codes from the various manufacturers.
