CAR 101 - Safe Use of Hand and Power Tools

Course Description

Provides instruction in the use of hand and power tools. Emphasis will be placed on the safe use of each tool covered. Topics include: layout and measuring tools, sawing tools, shaping and cutting tools, fastening tools, drilling and boring tools, and finishing tools.

Hand cutting tools

Differentiate among and list application(s) of the following hand cutting tools: cross cut saw, rip saw, backsaw, compass saw, keyhole saw, coping saw, utility knife, hacksaw, hatchet, aviation snips, tin snips, cold chisels, and bolt cutters.

Portable power cutting tools

Differentiate among and list application(s) of the following portable power cutting tools: circular saw, worm drive saw, power miter saw, saber saw, reciprocating saw, backsaw, and cut off saw.

Stationary power cutting tools/machinery

Differentiate among and list application(s) of the following stationary power cutting tools/machinery: radial arm saw, table saw, band saw, surface planer, shaper, and joiner.
