COS 106 - Introduction to Haircutting

Course Description

Introduces the theory and skills necessary to apply haircutting techniques. Safe use of haircutting implements will be stressed. Topics include: haircutting terminology, safety, decontamination, and precautions, cutting implements, haircutting techniques, and client consultation, head/hair/body analysis.

Sanitizing implements	Demonstrate knowledge of sterilization and sanitation rules and explain their importance.
Storing implements	Demonstrate knowledge of the appropriate procedure for storing sanitized implements.
Client protection	Demonstrate a knowledge of safety and sanitation rules in client protection and explain their importance in haircutting.
Safety practices	Demonstrate a knowledge of the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology for the safe handling of hair cutting implements for client protection.
Performance	Demonstrate appropriate safety and sanitation procedures related to haircutting.

Style cutting	Demonstrate cutting techniques on manikin utilizing shears, razor, and clippers.
Checking	Demonstrate the procedure for checking a complete haircut.
Texturizing	Demonstrate texturizing techniques.

Greeting Needs Maintenance	Demonstrate knowledge of how to greet clients. Discuss the needs of the client. Discuss proper maintenance procedures for clients.

Hair Analysis Analyze characteristics of clients’ hair to determine appropriate cut.
Head Analysis Anaylze facial shapes and head shapes.
Body Analysis Analyze body forms.
