Course Description

Continues the development of student knowledge necessary for treatment and prevention of oral disease.  Topics include: scaling, debridement, and root planning; oral irrigation and antimicrobial agents; special needs patients and ultrasonics and air polishing.

Assist and treat special needs patients including: 

  1. The pregnant patient and newborn infant;
  2. Preadolescent to postmenopausal patients;
  3. Gerodontic patients;
  4. Edentulous patients;
  5. Cleft lip and cleft palate patients;
  6. Oral surgery patient and patient with fractured jaw;
  7. Oral cancer patient; patients with physical and sensory disabilities;
  8. Homebound patients;
  9. Patients suffering from epilepsy, mental retardation, cardiovascular disease, blood disorder, diabetes, alcoholism, and autoimmune disease.
