ECE 2264 - Exploring Your Role in the Exceptional Environment
Course Description This course prepares child care providers and paraprofessionals with knowledge and skills in the area of examining the assessments and screenings used for placement, exploring resources, service providers and agencies that may assist the child in the child care or educational environment, examining the adaptations and modifications to environments, reviewing the referral process, implementing inclusion, and modifying teaching and instruction to accommodate the child with special needs.

	Identify purpose of assessment including screening, diagnosis, placement, program planning and evaluation.

	Review spectrum of opportunities available to assist in Exceptional Environments.
	Discuss importance of confidentiality.
	Examine strategies for communicating effectively with professionals in the environments of the child with diverse needs and abilities.
	Explain typical effects of societal behavior on the child with special needs.
	Describe contrasting interactions between the child with diverse needs and abilities and his/her environment and the non-disabled child and his/her environment.
