ENG 095 – English I

Course Description

Introduces fundamental grammar. Topics include basic vocabulary, basic sentence structure, sentence capitalization and punctuation, basic spelling, and basic writing.

English terminology	Recognize and use English terminology such as subject, verb, capitalization, punctuation, sentences, synonym, antonym, homophone.
BASIC SENTENCE STRUCTURE		0	20	0
Parts of Speech	Recognize parts of speech.
Identification	Identify a simple sentence, its subject, and its verb.
Types of sentences	Recognize the different types of sentences such as declarative, interrogative, exclamatory, and imperative.
BASIC MECHANICS		0	20	0
Capitalization	Capitalize the first word of simple sentences. Capitalize proper nouns, adjectives, and the pronoun I.
End punctuation marks	Use the period, question mark, and exclamation point as end punctuation.
BASIC SPELLING		0	10	0
Basic spelling rules	Use basic spelling rules to spell basic words.
BASIC WRITING		0	40	0
Sentences	Write simple sentences.
Paragraphs	Write basic paragraphs with a simple topic sentence.
