This course introduces the basics of Lawn Equipment clutch, transmission/transaxle, and hydrostatic transmission operation, diagnosis and repair. .

Diagnose noise, hard shifting, jumping out of gear, and fluid leakage concerns; and determine what action should be taken.

 

 

 

 

Inspect, adjust, and reinstall shift linkages, brackets, bushings, cables, pivots, and levers.

Demonstrate knowledge of basic transmission theory to include gearbox cooling and gear ratios.

 

 

 

 

Inspect transmission/transaxle case and extension housing

 

 

 

 

Remove and replace transmissions/transaxles

 

 

 

 

Disassemble transmissions/transaxles

 

 

 

 

Inspect transmission/transaxle case and extension housing

 

 

 

 

Inspect and replace gaskets, seals, and sealants

 

 

 

 

Reassemble transmissions/transaxles

 

 

 

 

Remove, inspect, and replace final drive

 

 

 

 

Measure endplay and/or preload on transmission/transaxle shafts. Use shim or spacer selection procedure to make necessary adjustments.

 

 

 

 

Diagnose transaxle final drive assembly noise and vibration concerns and determine what action should be taken.

 

 

 

 

Remove, inspect, measure, adjust and reinstall transaxle final drive pinion gears (spiders), shaft, side gears, side bearings, thrust washers, and case assembly.

Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble a driven pump following manufacturer’s procedures and specifications.
