Demonstrate small engine repair safe working procedures.

 

 

 

Principles of Operation

Demonstrate knowledge of two-stroke cycle internal combustion engine principles of operation.

 

 

 

Identification

Identify the types of two-stroke cycle engines.

 

 

 

Servicing

Remove, Inspect, diagnose, repair, and replace cylinder assemblies, crankcase assemblies, rod and piston assemblies, and cylinder heads.

 

 

 

 

Remove and replace bearings and seals

Define Ohm’s Law and the relationship among voltage, amperage, and resistance.

 

 

 

Magnetism

Explain the basic principles of magnetism.

 

 

 

Components

Locate and identify electrical circuit components.

 

 

 

Ignition system

Identify ignition system and describe ignition system operation

 

 

 

DMM Meter

Set up and use digital voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters.

 

 

 

Application

 

Diagnose circuit problems using continuity and voltmeters to record voltage drop.  Troubleshoot ignition system using spark tester and DMM.

 

 

 

Carburetion and Fuel Systems

Carburetors

Identify the major types of two-cycle carburetors and carburetor components, explain basic theory and operation

 

 

 

Fuel system

Identify the basic operation of the fuel system, including:  fuel/oil mixture, fuel tank and line routing, primer operation, and governor.

 

 

 

Diagnostic and Service Procedures

Identify diagnostic checks to verify proper two-cycle fuel and carburetion operation.  Identify contaminated fuel.
