Milling machine parts

Explain each part of the mill and what the part is designed to do.

 

 

 

 

Locate the controls for feed and speed regulation, direction of the feed, and direction of the rotation of the cutter.

 

 

 

 

Use and maintain coolant system on milling machine.

 

 

 

Vertical milling machine maintenance

Perform basic vertical milling machine maintenance and lubrication.

 

 

 

Blueprint reading

Interpret blueprints for material type, size, location of features, cutter type and size.

 

 

 

MILLING MACHINE CALCULATIONS

 

 

 

Speeds and feeds

Use charts to determine feeds and speeds.

 

 

 

 

Calculate and set speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for vertical mill.

 

 

 

Tooling requirements

Select the type of holding device or hold down system according to the workpiece shape and size.

 

 

 

 

Describe each type of cutting tool or cutting assembly used on vertical mill.

 

 

 

 

Set up workpiece to cut angles to +/- 1 minute of specified angles.

 

 

 

 

Find the center of workpiece using the tool cutter and the "X" or "Y" feed dial.

 

 

 

 

Locate points using an edge finder.

 

 

 

 

Locate the center of holes using a wiggler.
