Introduces basic concepts of two-stroke engine theory and servicing. Topics include: marine two-stroke engine fundamentals, power head servicing, precision measuring, and block repair methods.

Explain the basic principles of two-stroke cycle internal combustion engine operation.

 

 

 

Identification

Identify types of two-stroke cycle engines.

 

 

 

Power head components

Identify and explain power head component operation.

 

 

 

Power head assemblies

Diagnose and identify power head failures and their causes including pre-ignition and detonation damage.

 

 

 

Service procedures

Diagnose, inspect, repair and R & R cylinder and crankcase assemblies, crankshafts, rod and piston assemblies, cylinder heads, and bearings and seals.

Use precision measuring tools to determine the need for boring, sleeving, or replacing power head components.

Explain block repair methods including honing, boring, and sleeving.

Explain and apply basic power head salvaging procedures, and repair damaged threads & install thread repair inserts.
