PTA 202 - Therapeutic Exercise I

Course Description

Provides instruction related to the physiological effects of exercise. Emphasizes demonstration and practice of common therapeutic exercises for neck, shoulder, arm, hand, back, hip, knee, ankle, and foot; the traditional exercises which include active, active- assistive, and passive range of motion; activities of daily living training; and gait training skills and techniques. Topics include: common therapeutic exercises, traditional exercises, daily living training, and gait training.

Wheelchairs and their components

Recognize various wheelchair components and their manageability.

 

 

 

 

Identify various architectural barriers for the wheelchair bound patient.

 

 

 

 

Ambulate patient in parallel bars safely including equipment adjustment, patient instruction, and correctly guarding the patient.

 

 

 

Lying and sitting activities

Instruct patient on the proper way to perform bed mobility and transfers. (This includes the use of various assistive devices.).

 

 

 

 

Perform a tilt table treatment which includes the transfer, patient set-up and treatment, and the transfer back

 

 

 

Dressing activities

List indications for ambulation and procedures necessary to prepare a patient to ambulate.

 

 

 

 

Discuss proper dressing techniques for patients with various problems.

 

 

 

Assistive devices

Instruct patient on proper way to perform bed mobility and transfer.
